We're More Than Music
We start drum lessons with students as young as 8 years old, usually in 2nd or 3rd grade. Students need to be mature enough to stay seated for 30 minutes in front of drums, and be able to stop playing and listen to instruction.
Students do better in drum lessons when they have the opportunity to use their new skills in an ensemble setting. Therefore, the ideal age to start would be when the child can also play percussion in their school band.
It’s never too late to enjoy music. It’s really not about how old you are, it’s about your level of commitment. The progress that you make is directly related to the amount of effort you put in.
No, you do not need to have an entire drum kit to start studying drums. A practice pad and sticks is a quieter and more affordable option for your first few months of study. After that, a snare drum will serve well while you learn the basic rudiments of drumming. However, if you are serious about studying the drums, you may as well take the plunge and buy an entire drum kit. Make sure that whatever you buy comes with all the hardware (stands and pedals) and cymbals.
Buying a used drum set is a more economical solution to obtaining an instrument. You can search Craig’s List for used instruments.
A student should aim to practice 20-30 minutes a day. The more time you put into playing at home, the faster progress you will see.
One 30-minute lessons costs $25. You will receive one lesson every week. Lessons are billed monthly and pre-paid by the first of every month.
