Woodwind and Brass

Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone

How old does a student need to be to start woodwind or brass lessons?

We start woodwind and brass lessons with students as young as 9 or 10 years old, usually in 4th grade. Woodwind and brass instruments require a lot of breath control. Students younger than 9 may struggle with the amount of air required to play the instrument.

Is there a perfect age to start woodwind or brass lessons?

Between the ages of 10 and 12, children have the physical, mental, and emotional maturity to excel in musical studies. However, it is never too late to start studying music.

I am a "mature" student. Is it too late for me to start woodwind or brass lessons?

It’s never too late to enjoy music. It’s really not about how old you are, it’s about your level of commitment. The progress that you make is directly related to the amount of effort you put in.

I don't own my own instrument. Do you have instruments for rent?

The Mannington Music School does not have any woodwind or brass instruments available for rental. If you are interested in renting, we recommend Coles Music Service in Sewell, NJ.

How often will I need to practice?

A student should aim to practice 20-30 minutes a day. The more time you put into playing at home, the faster progress you will see.

How much do lessons cost?

One 30-minute lessons costs $25. You will receive one lesson every week. Lessons are billed monthly and pre-paid by the first of every month.
